DESIGN ACTION GROUPS (DAG)

DESIGN ACTION GROUPS

AKA  VERY IMPORTANT COMMITTEES As these groups establish their chairs (leaders!), we will include those names below. In the mean time, contact Jeff.


Future Education Needs (FEN)

Improve student achievement, curriculum requirements, integrating H.S. and College transition, Food Service / Transportation


Historical Committee (HC)

Preserve history and culture of Salida School District; inegrate with community. Provide ideas / comments on the remodel of Kesner Bldg. Propose names for new H.S. and  / or parts of the new campus. Think about and propose a "wall of history'


Community Involvement (CI)

Create and promote, with school district, activities that leverage community resources. Provide educational experiences based on student interests; current events and future career needs


Sustainability Committee (SC)

Guide the design of the High School with elements of sustainability in mind.

Some major points may include:


1. Energy Efficiency

A.) Efficient building envelope. ie. Air tightness, proper thermal and moisture details, proper use of passive solar strategies, efficient and environmentally friendly cladding B.) Efficient heating and cooling systems.


2. Site Planning

A.) Stormwater Design  B.) Heat factors - Roofs, landscaping C.) Lighting - Efficiency and Light pollution


3. Water Efficiency - inside and out


4. Materials Resource - Can we use anything from old high school?,  Construction Waste Program, Regional Materials.


5. Indoor Air Quality - Air Quality, Day Lighting, etc


Crisis and Emergency Planning (CEP)

Works with architect, owners rep, school district and local emergency responders. Plans for anticipated emergencies; generates plans. Ensures new H.S. and facilities / grounds reduce risks and anticipate responses.


Athletics Committee (AC)

Works with Athletic Director on facilities planning. Anticipates school / community needs and plans to meet needs. Works with new H.S.  Architect and owners rep to design and implement facilities to meet current and future needs.


Budget Committee (BC)

Coordinates with Board on expense estimates v.s. actual. Plans for capital and operating expenses. Anticipates significant budget swings. Works closely with school district on new H.S. budget


Facilities: Grounds / Maintenance (FGM)

Coordinates with Superintendent and Maintenance director. Works with school district, architect and owners rep to anticipate and plan for proper maintenance of new H.S.


Grants Committee (GC)

Does research and writes grants to go after $$. Any group funding will have to be covered in Grant Application


Education Technology (ET)

Works with school district and architect to identify classroom needs and building infrastructure needs. Sustainability and high performance buildings. Works with school district and architect to identify resource effciency and utilization. Involved in evaluating alternative energy resources, daylighting.


Votech & VoAg

Works with school district and architect to identify program support & classroom needs


Visual Arts & Performing Arts

Works with school district and architect to identify program support & classroom needs. Anticipates school / community needs and plans to meet needs.

This little chart below shows the basic hierarchy for process and decision making. Though it appears that the Design Action Groups are at the bottom, they actually feed everything else. In other words, the BAC will hear reports from the Design Action Groups for every major decision.
